Does The Spider-Man: Far From Home Trailer Support Theory That Avengers Will Prevent The Decimation In Endgame? | Breaking Geek

Welcome to Breaking Geek, where uber-geek Nick Doll offers strong opinions, fun commentary, informed reactions, and thought-out theories regarding the most interesting news of the week, using his expansive knowledge of all things geek!

There are many ways Avengers: Endgame can play. Millions in fact, if you are to believe the good Doctor Strange, though only one outcome sees the Avengers defeating Thanos.  If we are to believe the writers, Christopher Marcus and Stephen McFeely, and directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, we have no idea what we are getting in Avengers: Endgame.

Yet, as April 26th draws closer, details are coming a little more into focus, even without any new official promotional materials relating to Endgame. Toy leaks and set pics have given us more information than the Endgame teaser trailer, but the first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home gives us perhaps the most to work with, as it may help confirm a popular theory…

The surviving Avengers will prevent the Snap aka Decimation from ever happening in Endgame!

Not a new or original theory, I know. But the Far From Home trailer adds more fuel to that fire.

Far From Home Better Take Place After Endgame!

People are still debating whether or not Far From Home takes place after Endgame, as we saw the demise of dear Peter Parker during the Decimation in Avengers: Infinity War. Some say films like Far From Home, Doctor Strange 2, and Black Panther 2 will take place between the last film in each franchise, but before the events of Infinity War.

But, Kevin Feige, master of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, told IGN back in April 2017:

“…we loved how the events of Civil War, for as dramatic and intense and politically complex as they were, we loved how Peter dealt with it [in Spider-Man: Homecoming]. And how Peter dealt with it is, he then went and tried to go back to a normal life.”

What is it like to try to go back to a normal life after what happens in this movie [Infinity War]? Not to mention what happens in the next [Avengers] movie.”

Then, in June 2017, Amy Pascal said this in her awkward interview with Feige for Fandom – the one where she says Venom-Verse is the same “reality” as MCU:

“What I think we should focus on is this Spider-Man who started in Civil War and then has this movie, and then will be in the Avengers movie. And we are starting now the next one which will start a few minutes after Avengers 4 wraps as a story.”

Now, this could be a misdirect, but I find that scenario highly unlikely.

I will be disappointed if any of the aforementioned sequels look place before Infinity War, as for me at least, it negates the point of the story, in a way. We know these characters have no future, though these movies will always be fun to watch (knock on wood). But doesn’t it also limit your options for multiple sequels? Because wouldn’t the eventual Black Panther 3 catch up with Infinity War, leaving it nowhere else to go? And who wants to be stuck watching movies from a pre-Thanos universe going into Phase 4 and even Phase 5?

So, no, I do not subscribe to the theory that Far From Home is set before Infinity War. It surely follows Endgame. Which was important to establish as we shift to…

Evidence The Decimation Never Happened In Far From Home Trailer

If the Decimation did happen, but the lives of half the universe were restored by the Avengers in Endgame, wouldn’t Europe look like shit? Looting, a loss of half the population and the breakdown of governments would not leave the European cities we see in the Far From Home trailer as pristine as they are.

Also, wouldn’t everyone be really, mentally f—ked up after learning they were turned to dust? Or the fact someone’s loved ones were dead and now they’re back?

This is the new evidence I see in the Far From Home trailer that suggests the Avengers won’t undo what Thanos did by using the Gauntlet to restore imbalance to the universe. Rather, I think the surviving Avengers will prevent the Snap/Decimation from ever happening through the use of time travel, even if this leads to major deaths of our Phase 1 heroes… and Nebula (Rocket will be fine…).

Further Evidence Of Preventing The Snap In Endgame

We’ve also all seen the set photos featuring the Avengers at the Battle of New York from the 2012 film, back in their old costumes for the most part… and Ant-Man. And they’re all wearing some type of bracelet device that could very well be the key to time travel. Not only that, but a leak of a Thor action figure has him sporting one as well… hmmm…

And don’t forget the mention of “Time Vortexes” during the mid-credit sequence in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Also, Samuel L. Jackson seemingly let a Captain Marvel spoiler slip recently, that also supports this theory, though that is all I’ll say of it.

Now… For Wild Predictions! From My Brain!

Now, to add wild predictions to this theory that is supported by evidence including the Far From Home trailer, here’s what I think the third act will look like!

I don’t think we see Captain Marvel appear until later in the film, perhaps the third act. And I don’t think her main role will be to simply punch Thanos into oblivion, nor do I think Thor will actually go for the head.

I bet we see the deaths of at least Nebula, Iron Man, and Captain America, if not Black Widow, War Machine, Thor, and Hulk as well. Ant-Man and Hawkeye will live to see their families and to make sure there is an Ant-Man 3. Rocket is needed for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, if it ever happens (which it likely will… eventually). Captain Marvel will also go on to lead a trilogy and likely literally be the new “Captain” in charge of a new line-up of Avengers in Avengers 5.

As far as her just not using her powers to dispatch Thanos, I think that we will see Captain Marvel wield the Gauntlet to kill him or trap him in another universe. I think the true key to the team winning is she is powerful enough to use the Infinity Gauntlet without being killed. Not that she smashes better than the Hulk.

There you go. A well-developed theory and my wild fantasies that have no basis. A little of both is good for the Soul (Stone).

Does the Far From Home trailer support my theory, or am I crazy? What about my wild predictions? Let me know how right or wrong I am below!
