Don’t Expect The Avengers 4 Title Reveal Until Sometime After Infinity War’s Release

For those hoping to Marvel Studios reveal the official title for Avengers 4 sooner rather than later, don’t hold your breath (seriously, you’ll die). Originally announced a few years back as Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, the film was retroactively untitled by the studio, claiming that each Infinity War film will actually be its own story.

While we don’t buy that for a second, this change was understandable. Based on the performance of many Part 2 films, it seemed like a surefire way to reduce the box office of the first film, with audiences opting to wait until Part 2 to come out before watching the first at all (or dropping the franchise altogether out of annoyance for now being given a complete experience from the beginning).

But why have they been holding back on this title reveal for so long? Perhaps it contains something of a spoiler? That has been the rumor going around, and in a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, co-director Joe Russo seemed to indirectly confirm that theory.

“It is certainly part of the concept of the title is that it’s advancing the narrative. So we’re gonna sit on that until we feel the time is right and when people have absorbed the first movie enough.”

Avengers: Infinity War is set to hit theaters in early May. Of course, it’s completely subjective as to when enough time has passed to throw a minor spoiler in a title, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Marvel Studios chose this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (July) as the perfect place to reveal it.

Enough time will have passed that most will have seen the film, and it’ll certainly help out in creating overall buzz for Marvel, who will be on the verge of closing out their 11-year storyline.
