While we may live in a generation of reboots, but we also live in a generation of studios going back to basics. This previous year, we saw Halloween ignore all the sequels created over the decades, bringing the story back to its roots. With Terminator: Dark Fate, Paramount, James Cameron, and Tim Miller are doing the same thing.
But that’s not the only way they’re going back to basics. Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton are famously returning to the fold, but it turns out another familiar face is coming back. As James Cameron revealed during the Hall H panel today, Edward Furlong will be reprising his role as John Connor.

Of course, Furlong last played the character in the incomparable Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and in that film, he was just an angsty teen who’d learn to train his pet Terminator to speak limited Spanish. With that in mind, we can’t help but wonder what he’s been up to all these years and what he’s been like in the time his mom has been hunting Terminators. More importantly…how would a non-freedom-fighter John Connor turn out?
