At Anime Expo 2026, Amuse Creative Studio hosted a panel for Eleceed with creator Jeho Son, illustrator Zhena, and producer Hiroaki Nakazato to discuss details of the upcoming print edition and the anime series.

The web comic series follows a boy with super-speed abilities who is assisted by a powerful secret agent in the body of a fluffy orange cat. Together, they fight together as a master-apprentice in the hidden world of “Awakened” beings. The title is the combo of the words “electricity” and “speed.”

Jeho Son revealed that the origins of Eleceed came about while he was working on previous projects. He approached Zhena about working on the project together because he adored her animal-drawing style. Originally, a dog was supposed to be the main character’s companion, but it changed into a cat because of Zhena’s love for cats. Also, he discussed why the cat needed to be large, fluffy, and fat.

Son and Zhena collaborated closely, as Son admitted that his writing process is often influenced by her illustrations. Some of the characters he thought would be killed off would last longer in the series, because Zhena sometimes put too much effort into the illustrations. Therefore, he did not want to waste her efforts.

The pair then announced that the Eleceed print edition will officially be released in North America soon.

Producer Hiroaki Nakazato, who was also on the panel, gave the audience an update on the upcoming anime Eleceed, which was announced a while ago.

Nakazato said the anime production took about three years from initial planning, and the studio is ready to release it in early 2027.

“Despite being a full-scale action piece, it warms the heart through its depiction of friendship and personal growth,” said Nakazato.

Then the audience was offered a surprise glimpse of the Eleceed trailer created for Anime Expo 2026, which was finished two days before the convention began.

Towards the conclusion of the second half of Amuse Creative Studio’s panel, the audience watched Zhena draw the characters from Eleceed live, and the drawing was completed at the end of the panel.
