Emily Blunt Joins Dwayne Johnson In Jungle Cruise

Looks like the Jungle Cruise is getting a little more crowded. According to Variety, Mary Poppins Returns and Edge of Tomorrow Star Emily Blunt has just signed on to the Disney film, Jungle Cruise.

Blunt will be joining Dwayne Johnson in this Jaume Collet-Serra-directed tribute to the Walt Disney World ride of the same name.

This is one of those movies that has the potential to bring out the most cynical side of me, but the more I hear about it, the more I’m seeing real potential here. In addition to Blunt and Johnson starring, Oscar-nominated writer Michael Green — who wrote the script for Logan — wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay, which is great news.

What’s more is that Johnson is coming off quite the big jungle hit himself with the recent Jumanji, which has grossed north of $800 million worldwide. Now, that’s not to say that this film will be exactly like Jumanji, but it does show that there’s a hunger out there for jungle-crawling high adventure tales that we’ve been missing in the past couple decades.

We can also point to the first Pirates of the Caribbean film as an example of a great movie based on a ride — though we can also look at The Haunted Mansion as an example of a BAD movie, but what are you gonna do?

Regardless, adding Blunt to the mix is a great move, and seems to imply both parties had a great time with Mary Poppins Returns, which can only bode well for the quality of that film, right?
