Crank Director Wants Crank Cinematic Universe

Remember the high-powered, adrenaline-fueled Jason Statham starring film Crank? It was wildly over the top and extremely entertaining. The film’s sequel, Crank: High Voltage simply multiplied the first film’s formula.

One of the co-director of those films, Brian Taylor, recently appeared on The Movie Crypt podcast and discussed the possibility of a Crank shared universe:

“Obviously, there’s a great movie there somewhere. I don’t know if it’s going to be Jason Statham in a wheelchair, 40 years from now. I think there should be a Crank cinematic universe. Not just one movie. So who knows? There’s nothing in the works right now. But you never know.”

Not really sure where they would go with this universe, but if it happened, I would be interested in seeing what they put together. Maybe try to get The Rock involved somehow? These films, of course, wouldn’t be top level cinema, but they would be top notch popcorn flicks.

The first film played out very much like a live-action video game. Sure, it was over the top, but the film made you really root for Chev Chelios. Chev had to go round the city basically looking for power-ups in order to keep himself alive. I hadn’t thought about these films in quite a while before today, maybe I’ll give them a watch tonight.

Would you watch a third Crank film? Let us know in the comments down below!
