Emily VanCamp Addresses Sharon Carter Power Broker Theories

Have you heard of the Sharon Carter Power Broker theories yet? ok, buckle up. If you have been keeping up to date with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier you’ll know the Sharon Carter of this show has changed. However, some fans, myself included wondered just how much she had changed?

After Sharon had helped Sam and Bucky she then was picked up by an underling in a car. She sits in the back seat after being told “we have a problem”, to which she replies, we have two problems”. Add this to the fact that Sharon stays outside and away from where Nagel could possibly identify Carter as the Power Broker and you can see where the theory comes in.

I actually wrote about this in my Free Talk Friday column after first watching Episode 3. That was before I had even seen anyone else think the same thing. It’s intriguing that I was not alone in making that connection, because at the time I thought I was being a bit ‘out there’. So what does Emily VanCamp have to say? Well she’s hardly going to come out and say, ‘you got us, well done fans’. However, the wording VanCamp uses does it make it seems like this is a bit of a silly theory. VanCamp says that Carter’s ultimate goal is the pardon. If Sharon had gone full villain, then the pardon would no longer interest her.

Check out what VanCamp had to say about the Carter Power Broker theories when she talked with Variety. First of all the standard “I can’t say anything” which would tell us nothing.

“Well, that’s a good question. I mean, the Power Broker could be anybody. Also, there are several characters that have yet to be seen. So, I mean, I can’t say anything.”

However, VanCamp’s next comment was the one that kinda threw me off the trail as it were.

“I think for Sharon, the biggest goal — as you see in Episode 3 and we’ll continue to see — is she wants to be pardoned. She’s been on the run. Enough is enough. She’s sacrificed enough. And — if I’m talking about reading the scripts in sequence — that’s her main goal, and rightfully so. She comes from this bloodline of agents and has this tremendous love for her life that she had, and now she’s stuck in this sort of pirate land, and doing things that she’s probably not really wanted to do.”

“So I think that’s her main goal, to get back to some semblance of the life that she had, if that’s even possible. I mean, that was my biggest take. This is her ticket. She sees [Sam and Bucky], and as much as in her mind there are many reasons that she would just want to lash out and ruin their lives, they’re also a ticket for her to get her life back. So that’s an interesting dynamic to see as well.”

Unless VanCamp is lying her ass off about Carter’s mental state, I think we might be able to rule her out as Power Broker. However, Carter could well be working for The Power Broker in some capacity. There is 100% more going on with Sharon Carter than we currently know. Perhaps though, it’s not quite as dramatic as I first envisioned? What do you think of the Sharon Carter Power Broker theories? Were you never a convert or has this interview made you feel differently like me? As always, leave any thoughts below.
