Without a doubt, John Lasseter has had a huge impact on the animation industry. From his time with Pixar to his revitalization of Walt Disney Animation Studios, his body of work really speaks for itself. However, it wasn’t all sunshine and roses, as the filmmaker was fired from Disney following sexual misconduct allegations.
It’s been several months since he left, and in the time since then, he hopped on board as the head of the burgeoning Skydance Animation from David Ellison. They had been hard at work getting their animation studio off the ground and even had several projects in the works, including one called Luck, which had Emma Thompson apparently cast to voice a role.
Well, not anymore. The folks over at THR are reporting that Thompson has stepped away from her role (a role she had started recording work on). The reason behind it revolved around concerns with working for Lasseter. While some pushback in the wake of Lasseter’s hiring was expected, this is the first physical manifestation of that pushback.

In anticipation of this, the studio had even hired a female right hand in the form of former DreamWorks employee Holly Edwards.
“She did a good job at DreamWorks Animation,” an animation-industry source told the outlet. “The bump up at Skydance is no doubt a reaction to the backlash on hiring Lasseter last month.”
Apparently, that wasn’t enough to assuage concerns for Thompson. As far as what the film Luck was about, here’s what the outlet had to say about it.
“The movie concerns a battle between two organizations, one representing good luck and the other, bad luck; Thompson was the head of the good luck organization.”
