Avengers: Endgame earned a slightly disappointing $63 million in the domestic market this weekend bringing its hometown total to $723.4 million. That topped Black Panther’s $700 million and made the Infinity Saga finale the top-grossing MCU film both domestically and worldwide. Its worldwide total is now at $2.48 billion and rising.
The question of whether or not this movie will topple the number 1 films on both sides of the charts is all but answered, and it’s looking like a no. The film doesn’t have a lot of legs left given how quickly weekly takes are dropping. On the domestic side of things, Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ 17-day total now exceeds Endgame’s which makes it really hard for Endgame to make the $936.7 million needed to top the first Disney Star Wars flick. TFA spent 168 days in theaters while most marvel movies spend nearly four weeks less than that. Infinity War only had 140 days on the big screen.

It’s looking harder and harder for Endgame to take down Avatar on the worldwide stage due to the slump in U.S. sales. Foreign markets other than China are not populated enough to make huge contributions and China doesn’t keep western movies on the screen as long as we do. Somehow the Avengers need to make $303 million more to unseat the king. I just don’t see it happening. However, I was horribly wrong about what Captain Marvel would make so there’s always a chance I guess.
