According to a new trade report, Eragon is set for a new adaptation into a Disney+ series. The book series has already had a poor film adaptation, so I’m sure fans will be eager for another go. I personally do not like the Eragon books I’ve read, so this is one fantasy I can’t see me getting into when it airs.
As per Variety,
‘The “Eragon” live-action TV series at Disney+ has taken a big step forward. Variety has learned that Todd Harthan and Todd Helbing have joined the project as co-showrunners, with Harthan set as co-creator on the show alongside “Eragon” author Christopher Paolini. All three will serve as executive producers.’
‘Marc Webb has also come aboard as an executive producer, as has Rachel Moore. As previously reported, Bert Salke will executive produce via Co-Lab 21. 20th Television is the studio, with 20th TV having optioned the entire “The Inheritance Cycle” book series. The show remains in development at Disney+. Harthan is currently under an overall deal at 20th TV.’
‘Variety exclusively reported “Eragon” was in development at Disney+ back in 2022. The official logline for the show states, “When destiny selects an ordinary teenager to become the first Dragon Rider in over a hundred years, he must forge an unbreakable bond with his dragon, master ancient magic, and challenge the mad king who destroyed the Riders.”’

I’m pleased for fans of Eragon that they are getting another go. It’s rare this happens and after all the recent Fantasy failures we’ve seen it’s not as hot a genre as it was a few years ago. Disney+ already failed by trying to plant the Willow series as it’s jaunt into fantasy, but that failed so hard they took it off the service.
In all honesty though. I remain peeved that Amazon ended up with the two biggest fantasy series in The Lord of the Rings and Wheel of Time. They absolutley bungled both in different ways. Thus, we end up with one promising series cancelled (WoT) and a terrible one (Rings of Power) committed to finish. Or, that Netflix ended up bungling Witcher. I do like my more mature fantasy and Eragon really doesn’t fall into that category for me. I do hope you Eragon fans get what you are looking for though.
Thankfully, we do have Cosmere coming from Apple and finally we have a good series made by a good studio. HBO and Game of Thrones is the last time we got the right combo. Are you excited for an Eragon Disney+ series? Thoughts below.
