The Synopsis

New York City. March – April 2020 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, two men, both named Walter Stoyanov (Eric Roberts, “Runaway Train”), watch their lives getting turned upside down, as one of them falls ill and the other one is being investigated by FBI Special Agent John McCallany, (Rico Simonini, “Dear Eleanor”).

The actor Eric Roberts started acting in theater in New York. He became recognized for his Broadway participation in Burn This. Then Roberts made his debut on the small screen on the NBC daytime soap opera Another World. His first film was with King of the Gypsies with Judd Hirsch and Susan Sarandon, a film that won him a Golden Globe Award nomination and later was for Star 80. Some of his other popular projects are Runaway Train, The Dark Knight, The Expendables, Inherent Vice among several others since his start in 1974.  Roberts is famous for his roles as a villain.

I was connected with Eric Roberts and Filippo M. Prandi to discuss the making of My Last Best Friend. Roberts discussed what he liked about the script,  his characters and how he prepared for them. Prandi shared what inspired to write this story and the changes he made during the process, including the ending. They both spoke about friendship and the troubles people face in lonely situations and more!

Nancy Tapia interviewed Filippo M. Prandi and Eric Roberts for My Last Best Friend

As My Last Best Friend created the foundation of the story, it felt too slow. A common feature that is seen in indie films. It picks up at the second act as Eric Roberts characters develop individually. Reminding us why Eric Roberts is an amazing actor as he plays two completely different characters in one film. Unfortunately, as the film concludes we are left with questions as the climax passes very quickly.

My Last Best Friend is now playing in theaters
