Escape Room Sequel Set To Hit Next Year

You read that correctly. The original Escape Room movie from Sony hit theaters just under two months ago, and according to a new report from Deadline, its sequel has a release date of 2020 — April 17, 2020, to be specific. That gives them just over a year to get a script hammered out, to build the sick-ass Escape Room sets, and get to work and bringing the horrific fantasy to life.

The original film, which starred Deborah Ann Woll managed to take in $119 million worldwide off of its $9 million budget, so it makes sense why Sony would hop on a sequel as soon as possible. When it comes to those types of figures, it’s basically like printing free money for the studio (there’s a reason why Blumhouse has been so successful over the years, after all).

In case you’re unfamiliar, Escape Room is based on the current trend of puzzle rooms, where everyone has to work together to solve puzzles within an hour…or risk some sort of consequence. Needless to say, in the film, these consequences are all too real and it leads to all sorts of crazy tension, which is something we can see more in the upcoming sequel.

Did you manage to see Escape Room in theaters? If so, do you think it’s worth getting a sequel? Let us know down below!
