I’m sure this is hardly surprising news for anyone, but it seems Gideon is back for The Mandalorian Season 3. The character, played by Giancarlo Esposito is currently the antagonist of The Mandalorian. I doubt therefore, that many fans believed Gideon would close out his story in Season 2. However, that was just guess work, and now we have some words from Esposito himself to fall back on.
Esposito spoke to EW about The Mandalorian Season 2, mostly about how he gets in to Gideon’s head as an actor. However when questioned about his increased role this year, Esposito said,
“It seems that way. But I have a feeling you’ll see more of me next season. More than likely you’re going to see a lot of Moff Gideon. I can’t be sure of that, but it seems as though this iconic journey that they want you to feel it. I think you’re going to start to see other storylines start to creep in. When we start to realize there’s such a deep connection [between the show’s storylines and] the rest of the galaxy and what’s really happening. Maybe you’ll get an inkling of what he wants.”
What Esposito means by other storylines creeping on is hard to guess? Is Esposito teasing the potential spin-off shows we have heard about? Or, is Esposito talking about the story of The Mandalorian itself opening up into new threads? For the time being it’s all speculation. What does seem apparent, is that Esposito/Gideon is back for The Mandalorian Season 3. From Esposito’s comments, it also seems that Moff Gideon will have a bigger role going forward.
Surely most fans must be happy to have more Esposito in Star Wars? If not, tell us why in the usual spot below.
