Esposito Talks Using A Lightsaber In The Mandalorian Season 2

The Mandalorian Season 3 films soon

Fans want to see more of Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian after that Darksaber reveal. Will Gideon use that lightsaber in The Mandalorian Season 2? One would have thought so, and now actor Giancarlo Esposito confirmed it in a recent interview with Collider. The actor talked about how he did all his own stunts, and broke several lightsaber props during filming. You can catch the full video through the source section below, but here is the transcript of the relevant parts.

“I don’t want you to have any spoilers, but I did all my stuntwork on my own, without a lot of rehearsal, even though it’s a fairly big budget, technological piece with the volume and all the things that are going on. Sometimes that leaves less time to pay more attention to, and the stuntwork, by the way, has been with an Emmy nomination as well, to do that.”

“Having a lightsaber, I have a couple different ones, because of the technology that’s involved, they sometimes put the saber in and I have to have a handle only. But in working with that handle, I have to remember that there’s four and a half, five feet more of that saber. So it’s the way you handle it, so I had to practice. And sometimes I have a full saber that lights up, and I hope I’m not giving too much away in regards to the technology of it.”

“So it was a bit complicated, and I have to laugh because I don’t hold back. And so, some of our stuntwork in this season … I remember the props guy coming to me and saying, ‘Okay, this is our last lightsaber,’ because you gotta pull your hits … but you want it to look real.”

As for how proficient Moff Gideon will be with that Darksaber he wields, that depends? Does Gideon have Force sensitivity, even if not quote on the level of The Child? Within both The Clone Wars and Rebels we saw characters who were not Force sensitive wield that Darksaber proficiently. However, none of them were quite on the Jedi level. One would imagine if Ahsoka Tano shows up, as rumored, then Gideon would be no match for her? Then again, we know almost nothing about Moff Gideon, so perhaps he does have some kind of Force training to call upon?

I’m sure, like me, you can’t wait to see The Mandalorian Season 2. Everyone was expecting that trailer to hit over the weekend, and we began that rumor, oops. Although we have not heard anything about a new date, one would guess something has to be coming soon? The Mandalorian Season 2 is set for an October debut on Disney+ after all. Are you happy to see Esposito using a lightsaber in The Mandalorian Season 2? Are you hoping he won’t be the only character using one? Leave your thoughts below as always.
