Esposito Teases Darksaber And Gideon History In The Mandalorian Season 2

Giancarlo Esposito teases Darksaber and Gideon History, as well as even more hints at Force sensitivity. Read on for more details.

Moff Gideon looks set to be the main villain of The Mandalorian. Now after receiving an Emmy Nomination for his guest starring role on The Mandalorian, Esposito was keen to talk the future of Moff Gideon. Esposito has previously teased fans a little and perhaps even made some hints at Gideon knowing of the Force. After this latest conversation with Deadline, the actor isn’t letting up with the teases.

Here is what Esposito told the outlet about how we will find out more about Gideon and the Darksaber’s past.

“You’ll see more of the darksaber, you’ll get the explanation of this ancient weapon to the modern world, a collapsed world. Where did this saber come from and how was it revived? It’s a key in our second season, which will be back sooner than later. The saber is a key to Moff Gideon’s past, which possibly has a lot to do with where he comes from and his desire to build a planet and bring it back together.”

For me, the hint here is that Gideon has a big connection with Mandalore, something we already suspected. Of course what we don’t know yet, is how the Saber got from Bo Katan, at the end of Rebels, to Gideon, by the time of The Mandalorian. It is possible that we could see Gideon killing Bo Katan in a flashback, a flashback, maybe told by Ahsoka Tano to Dinn Djarin? That’s just speculation on my part, but I feel like the hints are leading in that direction.

Esposito teases Darksaber and Gideon History

Esposito also gave another tease of something ‘special’ about Moff Gideon. This is the second time Esposito has given hints that to me indicate he is either Force sensitive, or wants to be. Here is the quote where Esposito begins by explaining how he took inspiration from Peter Cushing’s Moff Tarkin.

“You could always read his mind through his eyes,” the actor explained. “I took a look at the imagery of this supreme chancellor, which really helped me. He [Gideon] is a supreme being in a sense. He knows it, but not everyone in the universe knows it. What we don’t know is how extra special he is yet.”

Very intriguing. Is Gideon not strong enough with the Force to be a new Emperor, is that why he wants The Child? Or as some fans haver theorised, is Gideon trying some crazy science to take the Force powers from The Child to give them to him? As said, intriguing, and I love this kind of tease from an actor. So often now, actors just refuse to talk for fear of getting in trouble. However there is a skill in teasing without giving key details away and Esposito nails it for me. We never feel like we actually know any more but Esposito’s comments always get my speculative brain going.

What do you think as Esposito teases Darksaber and Gideon History, as well as even more hints at Force sensitivity? Leave your thoughts below as always.
