Evangeline Lilly Talks ANT-MAN AND THE WASP And If We’ll See Her In An AVENGERS Movie

One of the things people have been quietly excited about, which is occurring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is the arrival of The Wasp. Evangeline Lilly played Hope Pym in Marvel’s Ant-Man, and we were treated to a big tease of things to come when they revealed the Wasp costume that’ll be putting on one day. Then it was later revealed that the sequel would be called Ant-Man and The Wasp, which instantly bumped up her profile within the MCU because it meant she’d be one of the central selling points of the film and not just Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) sidekick.

Outside of that, though, and rumors that Sharon Stone might be playing the original Wasp, Janet Van Dyne, there hasn’t been much to say about the project. All of the focus lately has been on Doctor StrangeSpider-Man: Homecoming, and the two Avengers flicks that are coming in 2018 and 2019.

Well, at New York Comic-Con Lilly had a chance to offer a few updates on not only Ant-Man and The Wasp, which is slated for 2018, and whether or not we can expect to see her in either Avengers movie.

Here’s what she told Blastr about the status of Ant-Man and The Wasp:

Right now an initial script has been created, but it has not been approved by the higher powers-that-be; by the Feiges [laughs]. And so, I haven’t seen it yet. I actually haven’t seen the script. I have talked to Peyton [Reed] about where’d they’re heading, what they want to focus on. I’m excited because it’s essentially going to be the origin of The Wasp. We’re going to see the Wasp for the first time; Take on the mantle, put on the suit, fly about, and do her thing.”

That’s pretty interesting. The idea that the Ant-Man sequel will mainly serve as an origin story that shines a huge spotlight on The Wasp should be exciting for fans of the character. It also makes you wonder how much time will be devoted to flashbacks of the original Wasp, since fans really enjoyed the flashbacks featuring a digitally de-aged Michael Douglas in the first film.

But that wasn’t all Lilly had to say. She gave a very definitive answer with regard to whether The Wasp will pop up in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, or the untitled follow-up in 2019:

“The Wasp won’t be in the first part. She’ll be in the second part because they really want to preserve that reveal for Ant Man and The Wasp.”

So there you have it, folks. The Wasp will sit out Avengers: Infinity War but will absolutely be a part of the 2019 Avengers film. This kind of falls in line with years worth of rumors, which point to the idea that the 2018 film will focus more on the Old Guard (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, etc) and the second film will bring the New Avengers front-and-center.
