Was CAPTAIN MARVEL Just Confirmed To Be Part of ‘AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR’?

Joe and Anthony Russo are currently riding quite a wave, thanks to the rapturous response to CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR– which follows the love fest that their first Marvel flick, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER got. However, since our culture is always looking at what’s coming next, eyeballs are already probing towards what the Russos have in mind for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. It’ll be the first AVENGERS film not written and directed by Joss Whedon, and it’s rumored to be gigantic in scope.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, which will be a two-part saga and will be undergoing a title change once both halves have been fully developed, is going to include an insane amount of characters. The directors have referred to it as the culmination of everything that’s come before it in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as the launchpad for the future. So when the brothers get to discuss who will be involved in this epic event, everyone leans in and gets really, really quiet.

The films are going to include a bevy of new and old faces, and the Russos may have just let slip who will be on that first side: CAPTAIN MARVEL. During an event at the Smithsonian Institute, the brothers specifically name-dropped the character, and when that caused a stir among the fans in attendance who asked for a follow-up, one of them realized they’d just let the cat out of the bag. “Um….Captain Barvel. Totally different character,” they said, tongue in cheek.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, of course, We’ve known for some time that Captain Marvel was going to factor into the MCU, and there was that famous close call in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. The heroine was poised to show up in one of the final shots of the film, with placeholder CGI created for her surprise entrance and everything. Ultimately, Marvel decided to save her for later, and used that sequence to introduce Scarlet Witch as a new Avenger instead. A solo film was also announced, which is slated to come out in March of 2019.

Her solo film will be sandwiched by the AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR two-parter, and Marvel likes to get all of its ducks lined up well in advance. We recently reported that Captain Marvel had already been cast and that they want her to be in PART 1, which makes this slip of the tongue by the Russos jive with what we’ve been saying. The studio definitely seems to have Captain Marvel on the brain these days.

As we reported, she’s been cast but Marvel Studios is keeping under wraps exactly who they’ve picked for the part. Let the speculation continue!
