Emma is a beautiful movie that not only showcases the acting from a wonderful cast and humorous storytelling of Jane Austen—also the wondrous costumes and set designs.
LRM Online has the opportunity to premiere an exclusive behind the scenes clip tied to the home entertainment release of Emma. Based on Austen’s comical classic of a woman’s misguided matchmaking in the 1800s, the film is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and On-Demand today.
The behind-the-scenes featurette clip discusses the perfect location and set decoration used for Hartfield, Emma’s house, in England. The mansion is a beautiful Tudor-style house with Georgian-Baroque additions with a few modifications of color and wallpapers to enhance the film’s aesthetics.
Anya Taylor-Joy stars as the titular character of Emma Woodhouse. The rest of the cast includes Johnny Flynn, Mia Goth, Rupert Graves, and Bill Nighy. Autumn de Wilde (The Postman Dreams) directed the film from the script written by Eleanor Catton (The Luminaries) based on the Jane Austen novel.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Jane Austen’s beloved comedy about finding your equal and earning your happy ending is reimagined in this film. Handsome, clever, and rich, Emma Woodhouse is a restless queen bee without rivals in her sleepy little town. In this glittering satire of social class and the pain of growing up, Emma must adventure through misguided matches and romantic missteps to find the love that has been there all along.
This version of the adaptation is pretty much spot on with the novel, and you’ll fall in love with Anya Taylor-Joy as Emma Woodhouse. The crew did a great job in the location scouting, costume design, and set decorations. If there are the Academy Awards next year, Emma should garner at least one nomination in those categories.
