Explanations Are Coming In Stranger Things 4 Say Creators Of Biggest Season Yet

The Stranger Things writers (The Duffers) teased a small glimpse at the script for Season 5 this week.

So far Stranger Things retains its fair share of mysteries. However explanations are coming in Stranger Things 4 say creators The Duffer Bros. Stranger Things 4 will be the biggest season yet and also the penultimate. It was announced that Stranger Things 5 will be the final installment of this story. As Ross Duffer told IGN, getting explanations means moving towards the endgame of the whole story.

“As we sat down to do [Season] 4, we knew that we had to start giving some of these big answers,” he says. “And the minute we started giving some of these big answers, it meant that the end had to inevitably be in sight. And so that’s what really led to us announcing that the fifth season was going to be the last.”

Star Millie Bobby Brown agrees.

“This season is the season of explanations,” she says. “This season really starts to answer all of the questions you have about Eleven’s past and her storyline, which was needed, and has been executed beautifully.”

Exec producer and director Shawn Levy says there was always a ‘master plan’.

“Since the day I read this pilot script that no one else wanted, I never once doubted that the brothers had a master plan,” Levy says. “And it became clear many, many, many months ago that we needed to end things at a point where we felt confident we could stick the landing, and the brothers see that landing. And there was no point in hiding the endgame from the world.”

“It was a big decision, but it wasn’t a hard decision because once the brothers saw the end, they wanted to start marching towards it.”

Star David Harbour though, does seem to know a little more about that endgame than most of his co-stars. However, as you’d imagine, he’s not spoiling.

Harbour may know more about that end than most. He says he knows what happens to a lot of characters after this season, but in regards to Hopper’s journey, “we’ve talked about it from the beginning.” While he keeps the specifics vague, he also teases a “very specific,” “elaborate thing we thought we’ll never be able to tell” about Hopper’s story that Season 4 gets the chance to delve into.

“We’ve been talking about this stuff since Season 1, I think,” Harbour says. “And [the Duffer brothers] do have a very specific idea of the thematics of this show and what characters are allowed to survive a world like that, what characters need to be punished, what characters can’t survive, because they’re not wily enough.”

“They’re very responsible with that storytelling. I’m really excited to sort of bring the whole story to an end so you can go back and watch the whole thing and see what the arc of the thematics are,” he continues. “Because I think it’s really a big, big canvas, but it’s told very responsibly and very well once you see the end.”
