Today we share a rumor that says Falcon and The Winter Soldier is delayed till next year. Until recently, I would have thought we’d definitely see the first MCU Disney+ MCU show hit this year. We may still, because it appears like WandaVision is much more feasible to release this calendar year. The report comes from The Ronin, specifically former Omega Underground writer Christopher Marc.
Now, I can’t necessarily tell you that this source has a good hit rate. I genuinely have not come across The Ronin before now. However, this story does kind of make logical sense, so I thought it was worth sharing. You can decide for yourself as to how solid this rumor is? According the outlet Falcon and The Winter Soldier is being pushed back to 2021. Probably due to the fact production still hasn’t resumed on the MCU show? Whereas, they say WandaVision being more complete, could therefore skip ahead and be the first MCU Disney+ show.
There is also potentially another reason for the delay to Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The writer seems to think there is a window of opportunity in 2021 where they could slot in Falcon and The Winter Soldier. It’s not made clear whether this is something heard from their source or simply speculation. I would therefore be especially wary of citing those reasons. Does this track with Bob Chapek’s recent statements on the Disney earnings call? I don’t think it does. That being said, it might be that WandaVision won’t be ready till later in the year. The delay to Falcon and The Winter Soldier could just be completely Coronavirus related? So this is perhaps just good logical sense from Marvel Studios and Disney.

Frankly, 2020 sucks, it’s been a crappy year for Planet Earth and the sooner we get to 2021 with as little fuss as possible the better. I always assumed these MCU would kind of have to run in order, and follow the order of the movies coming out as well. However, I and many others could be wrong with that assumption. Unless there is a good reason why Falcon and The Winter Soldier has to come first, then I don’t see a problem with switching these shows. Though, since we cannot vouch for the validity of this rumor, please take all this with the usual pinch of salt until we get something more official.
