Anthony Mackie IS the new Captain America, or at least, he’s playing him. As Endgame brought the curtain down on Steve Rogers, it was time for a new hero to would that shield. That hero was Sam Wilson. The upcoming Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney+ show will follow what happened next for Sam and his partner in crime Bucky.
It doesn’t look like Sam will have plain sailing as Captain America from what we know. In fact, it looks as though the show will deal with the government trying to pick its own hero. We know U.S. Agent is involved somehow in the show, as is old enemy Baron Zemo.
Anthony Mackie has been out promoting his new TV show Altered Carbon Season 2, where he plays the same lead character in a new body. I guess in this interview with Trey Magnum (below) talk turned to another hero he is ‘taking over’ in Captain America. Mackie talked about what he wants to represent as the new Captain America.

“With the idea of being a black man and becoming Captain America, it’s been a daunting task because I think, at this day and age in America, I think we are open-minded to the idea of having my face represent us, as a country, because we’re truly a melting pot. So there is no distinctive look or feel or design of an American. We’re all Americans. I want my Captain America to represent everybody, not just a specific group of people.”
I talked to Anthony Mackie and the rest of the #AlteredCarbon cast about the show's great second season, but I had to get some scoop on 'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier' and his thoughts about Captain America being a Black man pic.twitter.com/Te9Xs2OcRG

I do feel like the previous incumbent of the role, i.e. Steve Rogers also represented everyone. Sure, he has a different background than Sam, but Steve was the hero, the leader, the guy to sacrifice anything to save the day. Same under the guidance of Mackie needs to take that mantle on, and that’s no easy step to take. It’s going to take time, fans were not all that fussed with Steve Rogers after Captain America: The First Avenger. However, by the time The Winter Soldier came around, Cap was on top form and never looked back.
Let’s hope Falcon and the Winter Soldier ends with Sam well on the way to being the next Captain America. What do you think of Mackie’s comments? What was it that worked about Steve Rogers for you as a fan? Leave your thoughts below as always.
