Fantastic Beast 3 Gets a Title - The Secrets Of Dumbledore

Fantastic Beast 3 gets a title at last. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will be the title for the third in the Harry Potter prequel movie series written by Joanne Rowling. Check out the title reveal posted online yesterday.

I’m not 100% on the way this series has been named. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them worked, but to then name the rest Fantastic Beasts, and then whatever the subtitle is makes a lot less sense to me. Why not, simply The Crimes of Grindelwald, and then The Secrets of Dumbledore. One criticism of this series has so far been it’s inability to focus on the characters fans want to see more of. Namely the conflict and eventual duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald and their unique history together. Perhaps given the title here and the fact Jude Law’s Albus Dumbeldore seems to be more involved this time around, it indicates fans are going to get what they hoped?

The Fantastic Beasts series, despite being written by author Rowling has just never caught the imagination of the world in the way Harry Potter did. Perhaps it’s than Britishness that flows through the veins of Harry Potter I don’t know?

Since the reveal fans have been debating what the ‘secrets of Dumbledore’ actually are? Some fans seem convinced that Albus coming out as homosexual will be the big secret. Erm, I don’t think so people, that’s hardly very dramatic in the 21st Century. Far more likely is an exploration of why Dumbledore has been so reluctant to face Grindelwald? The pair were seemingly lovers, this is true. However, more important is perhaps that both were very like minded at one point. It was Albus falling out with his brother Aberforth, and Grindelwald that led to the death of Ariana Dumbledore. Ariana was the younger sister of Albus and Aberforth. After Ariana accidentally killed their mother, Albus was responsible for looking after her, which he very much resented. Whereas Aberforth wanted to look after Ariana abut was made to finish school by older brother Albus.

Important Moments

That event is the shaping moment that seems to have turned Dumbledore from a path like Grindelwald and towards becoming the great and wise professor who becomes so respected in later years. However, all we know of that event, is what is told to us through other’s eyes and ears other than Albus and Grindelwald, i.e. Aberforth. For a start, it is said no one knew who actually killed Ariana during their three way fight. At least, neither Albus, nor Aberforth knew who it was, conformed by both their stories to Harry. Then we have many hints that Ariana was an Obscurus like Credence, perhaps even connected in some way?

We all know where this is headed to. In the lore, Albus Dumbeldore defeated Gellert Grindelwald in a duel and thus won from him possession of the Elder Wand, which then becomes important in the final chapters of the Harry Potter movies. So while we readers and watchers may know some secrets, the point is that people of this era would not have known that at one point Albus and Grindelwald planned to subjugate the Muggles together for ‘the greater good’.

I just wish perhaps the story had gotten to this interesting point a bit earlier. Also we are now on our third Grindelwald in three films, which whilst never planned, now seems ludicrous.

What do you think of the Fantastic Beast 3 title. Are you still interested in this franchise, will you be watching The Secrets of Dumbledore? Thoughts below, sorry, we do not accept Owl mail.
