In J.K. Rowling we trust. I’m sure that’s the approach that many fans are taking with the Fantastic Beasts films. Certainly, with that first movie, I wasn’t nearly as captivated by it as I wanted to be, but knew, in my head, that if I let this whole series play out, it would come together in an incredibly rewarding fashion. After all, the woman knows her world and she knows her characters.
Apparently, I’m not the only one. It turns out that some of the actors are taking that same approach with their characters as well. This was revealed to us at a recent press roundtable for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald that LRM had a chance to attend. In this particular case, actor Ezra Miller, who plays Credence in the films, shared that he has no idea what the future has in store for his character:
“No, we don’t know the whole arc. No, no, no. Only Jo [Rowling] knows the whole arc. Literally, I mean, maybe she writes it on platinum chips or whatever, and she sends them into space. But, besides that, she’s the only one who knows.”

Of course, this isn’t exactly a foreign concept in Hollywood. TV has dealt with this approach for decades, and the original Harry Potter franchise had similar deals with some actors (though others, like Alan Rickman, knew exactly where their characters were headed), with not everyone knowing how things would shake out.
Is this a good or bad thing? Well, I think that’s for you to decide yourself. personally, so long as the performance is consistent and genuine, it’s all good. In fact, I think it may be even better, because it’s not like we all go through life knowing exactly where we’ll end up. But what do you think? Let us know your thoughts down below!
