Fantastic Beasts 2 Producer Thinks Grindelwald Is A Scarier Villain Than Voldemort

The Harry Potter series introduced audiences to one of the most memorable villains in novel and film history. Over the course of seven novels and eight films, Harry constantly struggled against the evil force that was Lord Voldemort. Sure, you may have some hangups about how effective he was as a villain, but he was a formidable antagonist nonetheless, one that effectively drove an entire franchise.

With the Fantastic Beasts series, we have been introduced to another big and memorable villain in the form of Gellert Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp. Like Voldemort, his character calls for the oppression of muggles and a certain amount of purity within the Wizarding World community. But which villain will end up being the strongest one in the long run? That remains to be seen, but during a recent roundtable LRM attended, producer David Heyman opened up about who he thought was scarier.

“I think it’s important to remember that Grindelwald to me is a much scarier villain than Voldemort, because Grindelwald makes sense to some people. Callum said Voldemort’s power is fear and intimidation. Grindelwald seduces, actually. You know, as much as we may hate certain politicians because they don’t speak our language, we have to understand that they are answering the needs and vulnerabilities, insecurities of others. Grindelwald is doing that.”

So, in the case of Grindelwald, he isn’t a name that incites fear as much as he is a man with some points of view that many agree with in addition to the will to act to make it happen.

But what do you think of these thoughts? Would you agree that the power of seduction is much more terrifying and realistic than the power to create fear? As such, does Grindelwald have the potential be a scarier villain? Let us know your thoughts down below!
