PG-13 Deadpool Christmas Movie Called Once Upon A Deadpool

When news first hit a few years back that Deadpool would be a PG-13 movie, it was crazy enough. Given the nature of the character, it would seem like the studio was completely out of touch if they had followed through with that approach. Luckily, that was one big joke and we moved forward with an R-rated film, and after watching two feature movies of a hard-R Deadpool story on the big screen, it’s very clear that going all-in on his gory, potty-mouth ways was the best way to go.

For that reason, it’s even more interesting that we’re even talking about a PG-13 Deadpool movie today. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, not too long ago, it was revealed that we’d be getting a re-cut PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 with extra scenes of the titular Ryan Reynolds character reading a bedtime story to Fred Savage, because why not?

Now, according to Deadline, that cut of the film is called Once Upon a Deadpool. Additionally, it turns out the film will release on December 12 and will conclude on Christmas Eve. As mentioned above, it will be cut to be a PG-13 film. The aforementioned extra footage shot was reportedly shot in one day with a small crew and with guerrilla-style filmmaking (though I’m not sure how guerrilla it can really be if it all takes place in a bedroom).

For every ticket sold, one dollar will be donated to the F**k Cancer campaign, which will be temporarily renamed Fudge Cancer campaign, for obvious reasons.

“Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006,” Reynolds told Deadline. “I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…”

“While my participation in this film was anything but voluntary,” Savage told the outlet, “I am happy to learn that Fudge Cancer will be the beneficiary of this shameless cash grab.”

While this may have just been a fun project concocted by Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, it sounds like the studio is genuinely embracing this as a way to test Deadpool as a PG-13 franchise…which kind of just makes me want to support the film even less, but I guess, charity.
