Fantastic Beasts 3 Looking At Spring 2020 Start, To Be Co-Written By Steve Kloves

A couple of weeks ago, actor Dan Fogler said the delayed Fantastic Beasts 3 film would be getting in front of cameras in February of 2020. While the project’s future had seemingly been uncertain, this seemed to hint at a potential future for the franchise, which seems to be in danger of chipping away at the good faith fans have in the Harry Potter world. With its declining box office hauls, one can’t help but worry at its longevity.

Now, according to Deadline, it sounds like its future has, at least through film three, been confirmed. The outlet states the film is shooting for Spring 2020 start date, just a tad later than stated by Fogler. Returning in a larger role is Jessica Williams, who had a brief one in The Crimes of Grindelwald.

However, perhaps the biggest change here is in the screenplay department. The last two movies were solo writing affairs by J.K. Rowling. Now, it looks like she will be teaming with long-time Harry Potter writer Steve Kloves. Perhaps this is the studio looking for someone more proven in the film department to help create a satisfying standalone feature, rather than something that feels too much like just a small part of a bigger story.

The third film will be set in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Fantastic Beasts 3 hits theaters on November 12, 2021.
