FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM: First Official Clip Will Make You Want A Strudel

The Harry Potter Wizarding World is perhaps one of the most effective wish fulfillment scenarios any generation has grown up with. As a kid, we all dreamed of finding out that we were witches or wizards, and would be heading off to Hogwarts. A world full of magic and intrigue? Almost any kid would sign up in an instant. But perhaps one of the most magical things I remember from the book were the scenes of food appearing in the Great Hall in front of all the students. As a fatty at heart, this was the ultimate moment of wish fulfillment.

While the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them may not be set at Hogwarts, we’re still dealing with wizards here, and as such, I was expecting all sorts of magical delicacies to make an appearance here. Lucky me, as that appears to be the case, as revealed by the first official clip from the film.

Check it out below:

Of course, the big question coming off of this clip is whether or not the film will be able to hit on that nostalgia factor as much as we want it to. Was it Harry Potter himself that drew in all those fans, or was it the world itself? At this point, the film is tracking to take in $75 million in its opening weekend — a rather soft opening for a film  spun off of one of the most profitable franchises of all time. Should the film itself be strong enough, however, it can certainly stay strong in the following weeks for a profitable run.

Below is the official synopsis for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them:

“The year is 1926, and Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident, were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.”

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters on November 18, 2016.
