FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM: Redmayne Was Almost Voldemort??

Eddie Redmayne is about to become a household name thanks to his starring role in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. The actor has found serious success, including an Academy Award victory, in smaller films but Fantastic Beasts is about to take his star and blow it up. Something you may find interesting to know is that he once came close to stardom in another of the films set in J.K. Rowling’s magical world.

Redmayne just revealed that he once auditioned to play a particular role in Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets. Want to know who the Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them actor vied to play? Then read on right here:

“I actually auditioned to play Tom Riddle when I was back at university. I properly failed and didn’t get a call back. Over the years, I always hoped I might be cast as a member of the Weasley family, but unfortunately not.”

Riddle, of course, is the character in Rowling’s sprawling Harry Potter saga that grows up to be Lord Voldemort. So that would’ve certainly been interesting, if Redmayne had nabbed the role. Instead, he’s going to play Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts– which is probably a better gig, when you consider he’s going to star in all five installments of the blockbuster Warner Bros. franchise.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, directed by David Yates- who helmed several of the Harry Potter movies- comes out on Friday.
