Talk about wish fulfillment. Aaron Paul, who starred in AMC’s BREAKING BAD– considered by many to be one of the finest TV shows ever produced- has had a dream role in mind for quite sometime. You may have heard about the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s THE DARK TOWER that is inching its way towards production. You have also heard about how it’s taken forever for everything to come together, with several studios, writers, directors, and actors coming and going from the ambitious project. What you may not know, is that Paul is something of a super fan, and he’s been lobbying for the role of Eddie Dean in thebook. A new report claims that Paul may have finally snagged his dream gig.
If true, this would be the end of an odyssey that began back in 2012 when Paul made his intentions very clear:
“@ThomasStratman: @aaronpaul_8 if theres a Dark Tower movie you gotta promise me you'll play eddie dean†Trust me. HUGE dream of mine.

After making it clear that it’d be a dream-come-true for him, the next update he offered was two years later when he revealed that he’d just had “a ton of meetings” about it with Ron Howard– who was the man attached to direct the film at that time. Much has changed since then. Warner Bros passed on the project, Howard exited the director’s chair, Sony took over, and Nikolaj Arcel came on as a writer and director for the adaptation. Something else that’s changed is that the production actually seems to have some momentum now, having recently announced that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey would be starring as Roland Deschain and the Man in Black, respectively.
Blastr is reporting that their sources have informed them that Paul is set to join Elba, McConaughey, and Abbey Lee in THE DARK TOWER. Their sources wouldn’t confirm whether or not he’s playing Dean, but considering the character is right in Paul’s wheelhouse- a smart ass, heroin junkie, who knows his way around a gun, and has enough verve to convince the devil to set himself on fire- it seems obvious who he’s playing, if he’s in the film.
As with all rumors, take this one with a grain of salt until it’s confirmed by Paul’s reps or Sony.
What would you think, if this were true? Want to see Aaron Paul in THE DARK TOWER?
