With superhero films coming out of almost every studio these days, we are seeing a lot more actors/acresses that have played at least two comic book characters at some point.
For example Chris Evans played the Johnny Storm aka Human Torch in 2005’s Fantastic Four and 2007’s sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Then was later cast as Steve Rodgers aka Captain America in 2010 and starred in Captain America: The First Avenger. Also the other actor to play Storm, Michael B. Jordan in the forgettable Fantastic Four film in 2015, went on to do a fantastic job on to play the villain Erik Killmonger in this years hit Marvel Studios’ film Black Panther.
Now another former Fantastic Four star is looking to take on another comic book character role, specifically a villain. “I would love that,” Ioan Gruffudd, who played Mr. Fantastic in the two Tim Story directed films told Digital Spy in an interview. “I just don’t know, in that universe, the Marvel world, would they let me play something else?”
“I’m so renowned for Fantastic Four. But a couple of actors have [made the leap].”
“And Michael B Jordan has played Johnny Storm and he’s amazing in Black Panther as well, so there are precedents set. So we’ll see.
“Maybe [I could play] a baddie, this time? Now that I’ve established myself as somebody who can do that, that would be great.”
Although he has been well known for heroic roles like Reed Richards and Horatio Hornblower, Gruffudd is now taking on darker roles which includes one on ITV’s Liar and Alibi’s new crime series Harrow.
