Bit of a Fantasy news roundup folks as the Harry Potter TV series eyes a Snape actor and Wheel of Time S3 gets a poster and more to come. Let’s start with the Harry Potter TV series which will see a new adaptation of the seven Harry Potter books. So far the only casting news we’ve got is that Mark Rylance is the top target for Albus Dumbledore. Now we may know who the top target is for Professor Severus Snape.

Here is what THR reports.

‘HBO is circling British actor Paapa Essiedu to play one of the hottest TV roles being cast this year.’

‘The I May Destroy You actor is up for the role of Professor Severus Snape in HBO’s Harry Potter TV series, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Sources say the actor has been offered the part although it is not clear if negotiations have begun in earnest.’

Now it will catch attention that this would be a race change situation. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t care specifically what race Severus Snape is. In fact it may be smart to completely move away from the movie version. I mean, who is ever gonna top Alan Rickman as Snape? Given that Snape will likely get much more screen time in the series it will be a very different role. However, you know some people will make a big thing of it. I’ll judge what I see on screen. 

Secondly, in an article from Vanity Fair, it was confirmed that Harry Potter will no longer be hitting screens in 2026. The show is now not going to arrive until 2027 on HBO. I kinda expected that would be the case, but you never know till they announce it.

Next up today we have some news for The Wheel of Time S3. Season 3 currently has no release date, though heavily rumored to be arriving this March. However, the show is being featured at CCXP this weekend. Ahead of that convention Amazon Prime has released a new Season 3 poster, check it out.

The poster shows Rand carrying Moiraine. I won’t say where or why this shot is relevant to the book plot at all. However, I do think it forbodes a darker season ahead. Which, is exactly what should be the case going into this part of the story. 

Additionally showrunner Rafe Judkins responded to fans online after the poster dropped. Judkins told fans that a release date will be formerly announced this weekend at CCXP for the Season 3 premiere. So, we’ll find out if those March rumors were true? Lets hope they also have a Season 3 teaser for us to view as well.
