Talking to Variety‘s Marc Malkin at last night’s Eternals Premiere, Kevin Feige explains Marvel movies delays announced earlier that day. Fiege spoke with Malkin at the red carpet event and asked the Marvel boss about the many Marvel movie delays that were announced earlier that day. I have to say, it sounds like Feige was not expecting that press release to hit yesterday the way he is talking. It seems like he’d rather that had come today for example, when he wasn’t in front of so many cameras.
Feige goes on to explain that these delays are simply due to “production shifts and changes”. Feige also explains that all they are doing is moving along slots. Slots they already had reserved, and that 5 months isn’t too long to wait between Marvel movies. Check out the video below, courtesy of Erik Davis.

Based on the answer given by Feige here, and fact I think he may have been caught unawares, I’m not sure I buy this reason. It seems far more likely that Disney had enforced these delays to give a longer time for theatre audience levels to recover enough to make more box office money. I’m not saying that’s a disgraceful reason, after all, these films only exist to make money. Though, I think we can probably all understand why Marvel or Disney wouldn’t just be up front about that.

The fact remains that these Marvel movies’ cost a fortune to make. That budget is dependent on how much money Disney believe they can make back. As we have spoken about on LRM before, especially Kyle Malone and Manny on the Daily COG, if we want big budget movies, we kinda need to turn up to theatres. Of course, maybe I’m being cynical and production changes are the real reason behind all these delays. I just don’t think that’s the case currently.
