Female Fast And Furious Spin-Off Locks Down All-Star Scribes

We live in an increasingly female-friendly film industry. Sure, there’s a whole lot more strides to be made, but when all said and done, there are a lot more female-driven films out there than ever before — with more on the way, especially with big-budget films — and it looks like that’s set to increase with the Fast and Furious franchise. That’s right. This macho-driven series is ready to get a female-driven spin-off in the very near future.

One of the stewards of the franchise, Vin Diesel, recently took to Twitter to share some exciting news regarding the film. As it turns out, some pretty big heavy-hitters in the form of scribes Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet have apparently signed on as scribes of the film. Here’s what Diesel had to say:

“As you know, there are three new spin offs that We have promised Universal… well this week we heard a pitch for the Fast female protagonist driven spinoff I created in 2017, and you can tell by the smile on Samantha’s face it was VERY exciting. Shout out to Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Welcome to the Fast FAMILY…”

For those unfamiliar, Perlman was one of the writers on Guardians of the Galaxy and has a hand in Captain Marvel, Detective Pikachu, Black Widow, and Labyrinth. Beer wrote the Netflix film Sierra Burgess is a Loser and also has Chaos Walking, Kingkiller Chronicle, Silver Sable, and the Ninja Turtles reboot on the way. Finally, Geneva Robertson-Dworet is one of the writers on Tomb Raider as well as the upcoming Captain Marvel, Dungeons & Dragons, and Silver Sable.

Very clearly, these are some huge rising stars in the screenwriting game and the Fast and Furious franchise couldn’t have found a much bigger group to realize this film. Interestingly enough, Fast and Furious star Michelle Rodriguez recently raised a bit of hell not too long ago because of how underutilized the female characters were in the film, and frankly, she has a point. Perhaps this spin-off could help correct things.
