Filoni Teases That Rebels Epilogue Could Be Post-The Mandalorian

Dave Filoni talks transitioning Ahsoka from animation to live-action

Could that Rebels epilogue be post-The Mandalorian? Honestly, I never even considered the possibility before, but it could be. For those unaware the ending of Rebels shot forward to post-Return of the Jedi. The animated Rebels show ended with Ahsoka coming to get Sabine Wren and declaring they were going to bring Ezra Bridger back. From the moment we knew Ahsoka Tano was likely in The Mandalorian, fans just assumed this was after the events of that Rebels epilogue. Rebels creator and The Mandalorian executive producer Dave Filoni has now posed another possibility. That the Rebels epilogue happens later in Ahsoka’s timeline.

Filoni and Dawson who plays Ahsoka spoke with Vanity Fair about the character’s live-action debut, Filoni was asked how the Rebels epilogue relates to ‘The Jedi’ episode of The Mandalorian.

“It’s an interesting one… That’s not necessarily chronological. I think the thing that people will most not understand is they want to go in a linear fashion, but as I learned as a kid, nothing in Star Wars really works in a linear fashion. You do [Episodes] Four, Five and Six and then One, Two, and Three. So in the vein of that history, when you look at the epilogue of Rebels you don’t really know how much time has passed. So, it’s possible that the story I’m telling in The Mandalorian actually takes place prior to that. Possible. I’m saying it’s possible.”

Ok it’s certainly possible, but is it likely? Honestly, Filoni is being coy here, and he could be just trying to throw us off the scent? I would not say at this point one timeline is more likely than the other. I think it all depends where things are going for Ashoka Tano. If Ahsoka is getting her own Disney+ show which we have heard is a sure thing, it could be equally set prior to that epilogue or afterwards? Perhaps by the time of that Rebels epilogue Ahsoka had already found Thrawn? However, it remains to be seen either way.

So could that Rebels epilogue be post-The Mandalorian? According to Dave Filoni it could, but that does not mean it is. Leave your thoughts below as always.
