Who doesn’t love a good video game? Today, everyone plays something. From mobile games like Candy Crush being played by 80-year-olds at the pharmacy to the major Twitch gamer with a $20,000 “battle station” ripping through Doom: Eternal on Insane settings in 4k at 100 frames-per-second, gaming is everywhere. However, while there are a thousand toss-away titles every console generation, some games define an entire human generation. Final Fantasy VII was, no, IS that game.

The Game Changer

An entire human generation may be pushing it, but there is no doubt that a large portion of young Gen X and older Millennials lost weeks (if not months) of their lives to the 1997 blockbuster. This author has played the game almost every year since. That is not a joke. He has logged an average of 120-150 hours on the original game EVERY YEAR for two decades! That brings us to April 10th, 2020 at 00:00 ET…

Final Fantasy VII: Remake is a passion project that fans have been working on before hashtag activism and social media campaigns were a thing. There is no #RestoreTheSnyderverse without “GIVE US A MOTHER F&$%ING FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, DAMN IT!” Its trailer, at 2015’s E3, brought countless grown men and women to tears. It is as close to a Star Wars experience as you can get. Yes, I am comparing Final Fantasy VII to a freaking religious experience! Having it in our hands last year was something many thought would never happen.
