I am not going to lie. I have not watched this opening for Final Fantasy VII: Remake. I know the opening, the original one, by heart. I am saving my reaction for slightly past midnight on April 10th. As a matter of fact, as I write this we are 54D:8H:17M from release. Can you tell I am excited?
Final Fantasy VII was a groundbreaking game way back in 1997. It featured beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds, amazing full motion video cut scenes, and the best battle system the Final Fantasy series had ever known. The in-game graphics weren’t the best, that is walking around the world and interacting with other characters, but the battle animation was great… for the time.
Ever since the PlayStation 2 was announced, people have been clamouring for an updated version of this beloved game. The epic story, easily 30+ hours to do everything story-wise, without massive amounts of level grinding, screams “GIVE ME CINEMATIC GRAPHICS!!!”

We’re not just getting upgraded graphics though. They are expanding the story to where the first five to eight hours of the original will now push the 30-hour mark. This first part, of what I think will likely be three pieces, includes everything up to the escape from Midgar plus brand new original content. There’s even a new member of SOLDIER we’ll get to fight.
