When I first saw the April 1 Belle trailer, I couldn’t wait to see the movie. I looked so beautiful and the music was so amazing. I was hooked. Now, Studio Chizu has released another trailer and it is action-packed with more incredible songs. Belle: Ryu to Sobakasu no Hime, or The Dragon and the Freckled Princess, will be released in Japan July 16.
What Belle Is About
On the Studio Chizu site, their description for Belle is:
The protagonist of this story, Suzu, is a 17-year old high school girl living with her father in a rural town of Kochi — their town is a textbook definition of depopulation in the Japanese countryside. Wounded by the loss of her mother at a young age, Suzu one day discovers the massive online world, ‘U,’ and dives into this alternate reality as her avatar, Belle. Before long, all of U’s eyes are fixed on Belle (Suzu), when one day the mysterious and infamous Dragon-like figure appears before her.

Belle has a Summer Wars vibe to it, which is another Mamoru Hosoda film. It also has elements of Beauty and the Beast, which is one of my all time favorite Disney films. I loved the virtual world in Summer Wars and am looking forward to seeing what Belle’s virtual world will be like. I’m also looking forward to more of the music. I keep rewatching the trailers, mostly, to hear the songs again. According to Anime News Network, singer and songwriter, Kaho Nakamura will be the voice of Suzu/Belle. This year has had some amazing projects come out and more to look forward to. July can’t get here fast enough.
