While the Avatar series may be movies, make no mistake, it’s also firmly rooted in technology. I mean, you need only look at the way they marketing the first Avatar to see that director James Cameron was more interested in creating tech than actually making a movie. The same seems to be for the upcoming sequels, which will presumably push boundaries in new ways.
Though, in spite of all the buzz surrounding it and the years-long production, we’ve seen almost nothing of the world of Pandora since we left it back in 2009. Now, we have our first look at what’s to come in the form of concept art.

While I can’t say I’m super excited for what’s to come in the story, I adore the looks of these images. More than anything, I love the diverse landscapes being shown. We have the tropical look in the first image, the second feeling like it’s pulled out of Final Fantasy X, more flying around on monsters and hanging around floating rocks.
It’s an amazing-looking world, and I only hope the world-building and storytelling are on par with what the visuals look to be.
Also, in a less-exciting side note, check out the image of the car Mercedes Benz made inspired by the upcoming Avatar sequels.
