Production is underway for the horror thriller movie Moloch from Nico van den Brink of Netherlands.
The story revolves around a 38-year-old Betriek, who lives on the edge of a peat bog in the North of the Netherlands. When she and her family are attacked by a random stranger one night, Betriek sets out to find an explanation. The more she digs, the more she becomes convinced that she is being hunted by something ancient.
The press release from XYZ Films did not list the cast members. Van den Brink helms the project that he wrote with Daan Baker with additional support from Jaap Peter Enderle. Sabine Brian and Ronald Versteeg produced the movie for NL Film (Amsterdam). Todd Brown and Maxime Cottray are executive producing for XYZ Films.
The movie is the debut feature film for van den Brink, who rose in reputation on the international film circuit with a string of short films. One of those short films, The Burden, is in development for an English-language full-length feature that’ll be his sophomore film. On that project, James Wan and Sam Raimi listed as producers.

A release date is not set for Moloch at this time as theatrical distribution in Benelux is handled by Splendid Film and the rest of the world by XYZ Films.
Van den Brink is a new director discovery. If his upcoming sophomore film already has James Wan and Sam Raimi on board, then it means he has tremendous upside potential in the horror genre. Potentially, it all rests on his directorial debut with Moloch.
By going with the synopsis and the first look photo, there’s not too much hint to the movie. However, the photo is an eerily scene with reminders of the Night of the Living Dead movies. As the movie title suggests, Moloch is some kind of god that requires a child sacrifice. So, the photo may represent cult members seeking something from the Betriek family.
