So far we have seen the trailer for Black Widow and had a good look at some of the supporting. However, we have seen precious little of Taskmaster, the image above is the only glimpse we have had. Taskmaster is the main villain of the movie (we think) and one of Marvel’s most famous comic book antagonists. How and why he comes up against Black Widow in the movie we do not know. However, we now have a more detailed look at Taskmaster via a common source.
Yes, like most big reveals for characters, we see them in the merchandising quickest. This one comes from a Topps card image shared on Reddit (Link below). Here is the image of Taskmaster as he appears in Black Widow.

The character design is not all that different from the comic book version. He has his sword, shield, and mask, though the mask isn’t a full ‘Skeletor like’ visage. One of the reasons Taskmaster may not have his usual skull mask is to get past Chinese censors. In Civil War the skull design from Crossbones was changed a little for the Chinese version to get past censors. Why the Chinese have a thing about skull masks is a good question, for another time. The fact remains Crossbones was changed for China. Actually I heard it has something to do with displaying supernatural elements, but I am genuinely ignorant on this one.
I have heard a few fans express grumbles about the hood. To be fair it does look a little like a teenager’s hoody. In the comics, it seemed more of an Emperor Palpatine type hood that darkened the features of the face. I can see the argument, but at the same time, it takes a lot to get me bent out of shape over a costume. I mean if Batman suddenly looked like Iron Man I’d be annoyed. But, this is the first we have seen Taskmaster in live-action, so I’ll wait and see.

I won’t have too much longer to wait, Black Widow hits theaters on May 1st this year, that’s about 11 weeks from now. With the marketing machine in full swing, I expect we will start to see a lot more of Black Widow over the coming weeks. The closer we get, the more we will have to be wary of spoilers as per usual also. Here’s one for you, Black Widow dies, just not in this movie (wink). Note to self, one of the readers will now claim I have spoiled Endgame for them.
