First Photo From Shazam! Shows Zachary Levi Drinking A Soda In Full Costume

Just a couple years ago, DC seemed to be the universe fans would go to if they wanted their deadly serious superhero movie fix. With movies like Man of Steel and Batman v Superman out at the time, it seemed clear that they liked to take themselves very seriously. This seemed like it may have shut the door on the likes of Shazam, a hero whose basic premise is a goofy wish-fulfillment story.

However, when director David F. Sandberg hopped on board the Shazam! movie, he made it clear that he would be going with a fitting lighthearted approach to the character. In a recent interview with EW, he opened up about his approach.

“I wanted to keep the shorter cape as a throwback to the original because that’s something that sets him apart from Superman or Batman. It makes him feel a bit more Golden Age superhero, which is the vibe I’m going for.”

Based on the first image of the film (Which you can see HERE), I’d say he definitely has gone Golden Age with that costume. What’s more, the tone looks more Elf than any other superhero than we’ve seen now, with a “Shazam’d” Billy Batson throwing back a 12-pack of cola with his best friend.

I have to say, this looks like it can be one hell of a fun movie, and the fact that they were able to seemingly capture the style and tone in one image is impressive. What do you think of the first image? Sound off down below!
