Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween Releases Its First Jack Black-Less Trailer

A couple years back, Sony released an official Goosebumps movie. The film starred Jack Black and while it wasn’t the greatest thing to hit, it was a solid, fun little movie that brought out the sort of whimsical spirit of the books. The film ultimately performed modestly well at the box office, taking in $150 million on its $58 million budget, which was enough to warrant a sequel.

However, Sony seemed to be having an odd approach to the film, having some drafts that removed Jack Black from it altogether. Well, it looks like they ultimately went with that approach, if this new trailer is any indication. In the first trailer for Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, we see two kids stumbling upon R.L. Stine’s house and unleashes everyone’s favorite dummy.

While I enjoyed that first movie, I can’t say this one looks like it’ll be offering anything new. In pretty much every way, it kind of looks like a rehash of the first film, and I can’t help but wonder why they nixed Jack Black. Perhaps he’ll be coming in at the end of the film in more of a surprise role, or perhaps the studio felt that Black’s fee was too large and that the brand name of Goosebumps was enough to sell the film? All we can really do is speculate at this point.
