Tennis is one of the most competitive sports. Then again, so are romantic relationships. So love and tennis may be a very complex love-hate relationship for the upcoming film Challengers.
Zendaya headlines as the star of a woman caught in the middle of her husband and ex-boyfriend set to compete against each other in a tennis tournament.
The film also stars Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country, Emma.) and Mike Faist (Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game, Panic).
Here is the official synopsis:
From visionary filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, Challengers stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court. Married to a champion on a losing streak (Mike Faist), Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against the washed-up Patrick (Josh O’Connor)—his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend. As their pasts and presents collide, and tensions run high, Tashi must ask herself, what will it cost to win.

For fans of director Luca Guadagnino, he created some exciting dramas with Suspiria, Call Me by Your Name, and Bones and All. From reading the synopsis of Challengers, this may be entirely different from those movies blending romantic dramas and sports.
Hopefully, the studio will release a trailer soon to give us a better feel for the upcoming film. It is on many critics’ to-watch list for indie cinema.
Challengers is in theaters on Friday, April 26.
