First Teaser For Rick Rubin’s Documentary Series ‘JAŸ-Z IN 8’

HBO has released the first teaser for JAŸ-Z IN 8, a new eight-part documentary series that offers an intimate look at one of hip-hop’s most influential artists through a series of in-depth conversations with legendary producer Rick Rubin.

Set to premiere this fall on HBO and stream on HBO Max in the United States, the documentary has been years in the making and promises an unfiltered exploration of JAŸ-Z’s music, creative process, personal experiences, and career-defining legacy.

The newly released teaser offers a glimpse into the thoughtful conversations between Rubin and the iconic rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur. In one of the teaser’s standout moments, JAŸ-Z reflects on using life’s hardships as artistic fuel, saying, “The pain, you don’t say it’s necessary, you don’t say you need it, but if it’s there, you use it.”

Rather than following the traditional music documentary format, JAŸ-Z IN 8 centers on extended conversations between Rubin and JAŸ-Z, allowing the artist to examine the stories behind his lyrics, his evolution as both a musician and businessman, and the experiences that have shaped his decades-long career.

Rubin is no stranger to creating compelling music documentaries. The acclaimed producer previously directed the Emmy-nominated documentary series McCartney 3,2,1, which featured candid conversations with music legend Paul McCartney about songwriting, recording techniques, and The Beatles’ enduring influence.

The new HBO documentary is presented by HBO Documentary Films and produced by Tetragrammaton. Rick Rubin serves as director and executive producer alongside Shawn Carter, better known professionally as JAŸ-Z, and Academy Award-winning actor Daniel Kaluuya. Leila Mattimore and David Rohde serve as producers.

Although HBO has not yet announced a specific premiere date, the network confirmed that JAŸ-Z IN 8 will debut this fall, giving fans an unprecedented opportunity to hear one of music’s most celebrated artists reflect on his life, his lyrics, and the creative journey that transformed him into a global cultural icon.

Additional details about the series are expected to be announced closer to its release.
