Florida Deems WWE An Essential Business In Florida

A little over a week ago World Wrestling Entertainment or WWE gave us WrestleMania 36. This was showcased in a two-night event that was pre-recorded because of the stay at home guidelines set by Florida. Up until this week many of the shows including RAW, SmackDown and NXT had been pre-recorded.

This week WWE goes back to running live shows, starting with Monday Night RAW. They can do this because according to a report by ESPN, WWE has been deemed an “essential business” in Florida. This decision by Governer Ron DeSantis’ office could light a spark for other sports to resume play in the state. Here is the complete April 9th memo if you want to take a look at it.

Here is the section that allows WWE to go back to work:
“employees at a professional sports and media production with a national audience — including any athletes, entertainers, production team, executive team, media team and any others necessary to facilitate including services supporting such production — only if the location is closed to the general public.”

During a news conference on Monday, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said that WWE was not initially designated as an essential business. Which is why they were not exempt from the state’s shelter-in-place order. But after conversations with the governor’s office, that decision was changed.

“We believe it is now more important than ever to provide people with a diversion from these hard times,” WWE said in a statement. “We are producing content on a closed set with only essential personnel in attendance following appropriate guidelines while taking additional precautions to ensure the health and wellness of our performers and staff. As a brand that has been woven into the fabric of society, WWE and its Superstars bring families together and deliver a sense of hope, determination and perseverance.”

We still don’t know when we are getting our live sports back. So for now it’s great to be able to watch my wrestling shows. Sure they are not the same without the crowd, but it’s better than nothing. Hopefully they can take the right precautions. That way they don’t have any problems that can delay other sports from coming back.
