Director James Mangold may have been flirting with the Oscars with his work on Logan, but with his next movie, he’s full-on courting them, in hopes of someday going all the way. Weird analogies aside, it’s clear with this new film, Ford v Ferrari, Mangold is looking at some potential Oscar consideration here.
The movie stars Christian Bale and Matt Damon, and features a fun, relatable tale of two men working hard to take down a giant in the racing world — in this case, Enzo Ferrari. Based on a true story, this one looks to be a real crowd-pleaser, if this trailer is any indication.
Below is the official synopsis for Ford v Ferrari:
“Academy Award-winners Matt Damon and Christian Bale star in FORD v FERRARI, based on the remarkable true story of the visionary American car designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and the fearless British-born driver Ken Miles (Bale), who together battled corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford Motor Company and take on the dominating race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966.”
Given the positive reviews from the Toronto International Film Festival, it would seem that enthusiasm is pretty high for this one, but will it translate to general audiences? We’ll have to wait and see.
