FOX Cancels Brooklyn Nine-Nine After Five Seasons

As a fan of the show, I am very sad to report via Deadline that FOX’s cult cop comedy show Brooklyn Nine-Nine is being canceled after 5 seasons. It had been the highest rated live action comedy series on FOX this season with 1.3 adults 18-49 Live +7 rating. It’s the only show left on FOX from an outside studio, in this case Universal TV.

Last year, they were barely able to negotiate a deal with Universal TV for a Season 4 renewal. This time around it’s getting cancelled. Brooklyn Nine-Nine debuted back in September of 2013 it had even won two Golden Globe awards for best TV series (comedy or musical) and best actor in comedy for their lead Andy Samberg. But it had a hard time gaining any momentum as it was constantly moved from Sundays and Tuesdays. This year it had returned from a long winter break to it’s Sunday slot replacing the comedy Ghosted.

In case you haven’t had the opportunity to watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine, it’s main character is Detective Jake Peralta, played by Samberg, who although is the “class clown” of the precinct, is also really good at his job. He his complimented very well with Andre Braugher who plays the NYPD 99th’s precinct’s captain Raymond Holt. His emotionally challenged character earned three consecutive Emmys for supporting actor from 2014-16.

Also on the show were Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio, Stephanie Beatriz, Chelsea Peretti, Joel McKinnon Miller and Dirk Blocker. The show had been created by the Parks and Recreation duo of Dan Goor and Michael Schur. Who also served as executive producers with David Miner and Luke Del Tredici.

Although there will be no new episodes (for now), Brooklyn Nine-Nine had a TBS syndication deal in December. Along with this show FOX also canceled The Last Man on Earth and The Mick.

What are your thoughts on the cancellation of Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Did you enjoy watching that show? Let us know in the comment section below!
