Fox Was ‘Crazed’ When Disney Bought Lucasfilm

Obi-Wan Thought Vader Was Dead Confirms Kenobi Director

Have you ever been in a position to do something really cool, but didn’t really act on it for one reason or another. Perhaps it was because you didn’t think you were good enough, or maybe you didn’t think that thing was a possibility to begin with. Well, this is pretty much what happened with 20th Century Fox back in 2012.

If you’ll recall, in October of that year, the Star Wars fandom exploded when it was revealed that Disney acquired Lucasfilm for a bit over $4 billion. Apparently, as Disney CEO Bob Iger reflected, Fox’s Rupert Murdoch was initially furious.

“Rupert was crazed that we bought Lucas,” Iger explained to the NY Times. “They were the distributor of all of [George Lucas’] movies, and he was very disappointed in his people. ‘Why didn’t you think of this?’”

Of course, Fox has a rich history with Star Wars. Up until that purchased, acting as distributor from the very beginning. In fact, that 20th Century Fox fanfare is a staple of the franchise and is coupled with many film fans’ memories of the series.

However, with Disney now owning Fox, it really doesn’t matter much, now does it?
