While Game of Thrones managed to be a huge fan-favorite with TV-watching audiences in recent years, these past couple of seasons resulted in a lot of vitriol and hate being expressed online — most notably in Season 8 of the HBO show. If you’ll recall, there was even a well-known petition that called for HBO to remake the season.
As the season was airing, we saw some responses from actors, who mostly defended all the hard work that went into crafting the final season of the fantasy epic series. But what did start Kit Harington think of the final season and how did he deal with the controversy?
“I still haven’t seen the show,” the star told EW. “So that’s how I dealt with that controversy — I haven’t seen the final season but I know what it took to shoot it. It was hard and all of them put their love and effort into it. Controversy, I think for us, we knew what we were doing was right, storywise, and we knew that it was right for the characters because we lived with them for 10 years. Controversy for us didn’t really affect us.”
Of course, Harington is coming at it from a completely different perspective from fans. To him, it’s all about the character he inhabited, and not necessarily the story as a whole. Fans also have a tendency to expect very specific things of shows that are ending, and if expectations aren’t met, they’re left with a bad taste in their mouths.
