Game Of Thrones: Did George R.R. Martin Reveal The Title Of The Prequel Series?

In today’s day and age, secrets are paramount. The studios and networks go to great lengths to ensure that audiences aren’t spoiled, thereby ruining their overall experience. Marvel Studios is notoriously secretive about their movies, but another big secret hound is HBO. Back during the production of Game of Thrones, actors weren’t even given access to their scripts, and everything was kept under lock and key.

But those aren’t the only secrets they’re keeping. We have the upcoming prequel series we know virtually nothing about. Yes, we know it takes place thousands of years prior to the events in Game of Thrones, but that’s pretty much it. Even when source material author George R.R. Martin referred to it as The Long Night, the network was quick to tell everyone that it wasn’t going to be called that.

So…what IS it going to be called? Speaking with EW, Martin himself sort of spilled the beans on what’s being thrown around.

“I heard a suggestion that it could be called The Longest Night, which is a variant I wouldn’t mind. That would be pretty good.”

Yeah, it’s pretty much in keeping with what we’ve heard from Martin in the past, and it’s hilarious that the network would be so tight-lipped on something that would ultimately be so close to the final title. But what does it mean?

Per the source material, it was an era where the White Walkers descended on Westeros, along with a great winter that lasted a generation. Basically, it’s what they feared would happen in the main A Song of Ice and Fire series, and if the tales are any indication, it sounds like it’ll be depressing and cold as hell.
